Crohn’s disease and colitis pain

Crohn’s disease is a long-term condition where the gut becomes inflamed. Symptoms include stomach ache, cramps, diarrhoea and blood in the faeces.

The cause of this condition is unknown but has been linked to issue with the immune system and a genetic pre-disposition to the disease.

Ulcerative colitis is similar condition and symptoms include frequent diarrhoea (which may also be bloody or contain mucus or pus), stomach pain and the need to eliminate the bowels frequently. Weight loss, a loss of appetite and extreme tiredness can also be symptoms of colitis. Both of these conditions can have a significant impact on the life of the sufferer and can even lead to feelings of anxiety or depression.

  • Amino-salicylates (ASAs)
  • Corticosteroids
  • Immunosuppressants
